The Retail Energy Advancement League is a collective of dedicated members with a common goal of empowering customer choice through the preservation, expansion, and modernization of retail energy markets.
We believe all consumers deserve control over their energy decisions, including how they buy, produce and/or consume energy, energy services, usage data, and other energy insights.
We believe advanced competitive retail energy markets maximize consumer value and facilitate the deployment of renewable energy.
Empowering customer choice through competitive retail markets is the best way for policymakers to achieve the rapid deployment of renewable energy. All consumers deserve control over their energy decisions, including how they buy, produce and/or consume energy, energy services, usage data, and other energy insights.
We believe competitive retail providers are best positioned to understand and meet the multifaceted needs of consumers.
Customers are increasingly aware of their own energy consumption and eager to find ways to reduce their usage. Competitive retail markets provide a foundation upon which new technologies can be tested and rapidly deployed. This will ultimately result in lower overall consumption and more efficient use of power.
We believe competitive retail suppliers should be the entities tasked with helping customers achieve their energy goals.
Suppliers should be able to directly manage their relationship with consumers so they can inform customers of products and services that will assist them in reducing their usage, lowering their bill, or helping them to support specific energy sources and technologies. One key to forming strong, long-lasting relationships with consumers is the ability to provide consolidated billing services to customers which include all of a customer’s energy related charges.
We believe a well-functioning, efficient competitive retail market must include robust consumer protections.
We will work with regulators and policymakers to ensure that licensing/operating standards include demonstration of sufficient financial, managerial and compliance capabilities to serve customers. We support consumer protection standards for residential customers that include disclosure of minimum contract terms, automatic renewal notices, and price transparency. We seek to collaborate with regulators and policymakers to make it easier for customers to confidently find the best product and services that meet their specific needs by eliminating barriers to the retail competitive market.
